HIBS STRUGGLE TO VICTORY

Hibernians were made to work hard to beat Sliema Wanderers 2-1 to maintain the pace with leaders Balzan Youths, while a Miguel Alba first-half goal was enough for Birkirkara to beat Tarxien Rainbows 1-0 on Saturday.

Hibernians opened the scoring after just seven minutes into the match when their leading scorer Jurgen Degabriele beat the Blues custodian Giuseppe Sarao. For the Paolites striker it is his 12th league goal so far this season.

Meanwhile on 34 minutes Mark Miller’s side doubled their lead courtesy of attacking midfielder Bjorn Kristensen.

After the break on 62 minutes the Wanderers pulled one back when they were given a penalty from which Alex Muscat beat goalkeeper Andrew Hogg.

Birkirkara’s match winner came on verge of half-time when Miguel Alba beat the Rainbows custodian Philip Schranz to hand the Stripes three important points.
