WOMEN'S LEAGUES BACK IN ACTION

Eight teams will return to action for the first time in 2017 to wrap up the second round of both the Women’s First and Second Division.

Meanwhile, two teams have already faced each other in the top tier, as Gozo hosted leaders Birkirkara.

The Stripes marched through victory with a scoreline of 4-1, to consolidate their lead at the top of the league, while increasing their gap over Hibernians to 10 points, with the Paolites still to play this week.

Hibernians will in fact face Raiders (Luxol) in their final commitment of the second encounter, eyeing the three points in order push on Birkirkara for the title.

The Paolites will be determined to return to winning ways, having lost their final match of 2016 against Birkirkara.

On the other hand, Raiders are currently penultimate at four points, and any positive outcome from this tie would help their bid of salvation.

In the other match from this division, Kirkop United and Mgarr United will cross swords with each other. The Reds are currently occupying fourth place with 12 points, four points behind the Greens, thus this encounter promises to be an intriguing one as both teams will be striving to push themselves up in the table as much as possible.

Women’s Second Division

Leaders Swieqi United will take on Tarxien Rainbows, knowing that a win would put them in a very comfortable position for the promotion, as they are currently leading the second tier with an eight-point lead over second place Mosta.

On the other hand, Tarxien will hope to halt their winless streak and put themselves back on track for the promotion race – (@2015, Mgarr Stadium)

In the other match, Mosta will lock horns with Kirkop United Team B. Mosta are currently occupying second place with 13 points, and taking maximum points from this encounter will be vital for their title and promotion bid.

Meanwhile, Kirkop are currently rock-bottom, but their four points from their last three fixtures will be an additional boost to open the new year on a high.
