HIBERNIANS WINS MASTERS KNOCK OUT

Hibernians Masters finished the season on a high when they won the Masters Knock-Out after beating champions Desana.

Both teams offered high quality football in a great interesting game up to the end and both teams deserve credit for showing good sportsmanship and referee Joe Spiteri showed only one yellow card.

Referee Joe Spiteri had an excellent game, being assisted by Reno Galea. Desana, offered good resistance and kept the pressure up to the end.

The enthusiasim was at its best till the end, and both teams had some players that showed class, like Carlo Mamo, Jeffrey Gauci and Williams Borg for Desana and Glenn Barry, Garett Magri and Etienne Bonnici being the best for Hibernians.

It took both teams a lot of time before they started getting the goals, with Malcolm Camilleri scoring the opening. But soon after William Borg got the equaliser.

However, from then on, Hibernians dominated for some time, playing some refreshing football and getting five consecutive goals to go infront 6-1 with Glenn Barry getting three, taking advantage from several mistakes committed by the shaky defence of their opponents.

But Desana were not finished and with Carlo Mamo in the team, managed to get three goals to lose the first half 6-4.

After the break, play was balanced and both teams kept alternating the goals, but the two goal difference in favour of Hibernians, was kept till the end, despite the great efforts by Desana to save the game.
They had and lost some good chances and were also unfortunate to hit the post from a bombshell by Jefffrey Gauci.

At the end, Mario Meli, president of Masters Football (Malta) in a short speech congratulated both teams in producing such an interesting game, played in the best of spirits, which was good promotion for Masters Football in Malta.

After, he presented medals to both sets of teams and the Knock Out Trophy to Lawrence Vella, captain of Hibernians.
