BIRKIRKARA LIFT THE TROPHY

Birkirkara denied Hibernians the double after beating the champions 2-0 in the FA Trophy final on Saturday.

Birkirkara broke the deadlock on 29 minutes when a Rafael Rodrigues Ledesma free-kick came to the unmarked Maurizio Latini Mazzetti, who with a half volley beat goalkeeper Henry Bonello.

After the break on 68 minutes the Stripes doubled their advantage when Rafael Rodrigues Ledesma, who was in the thick of the action of the opening goal shot past goalkeeper Bonello.

Two minutes later Pawlu Zammit’s side could have made it 3-0 when captain Paul Fenech saw his shot hitting the woodwork with Hibs custodian beaten.
