KHEDIRA SIGNS NEW JUVE CONTRACT

Sami Khedira has signed a new contract at Juventus.

The Germany international's new deal runs until 2021, with an option for a one-year extension.

Khedira has won three Serie A titles since joining Juve from Real Madrid and scored a career-best nine goals last season, including a first-ever career hat-trick, although he is more typically known for his defensive contribution and accurate passing.

Indeed, he netted during the club's 3-2 win over Chievo Verona on the opening weekend, and also featured in the wins over Lazio and Parma.

"I just extended my contract at Juventus until 2021," he wrote on Twitter.

"Since my first day I’ve had a special feeling and it quickly felt like home here. I'm very proud to be a part of the great history of the club and of the Juventus family. Let's continue to make black and white history."

Khedira, who is described as a "cornerstone" of the midfield by the club in a statement, has made 113 appearances for the club following his 2015 move and he has played more minutes than any other player, amassing a total of 8882 in all competitions over his three years.

The 31-year-old is one of Europe's most decorated players and has won league titles in Germany with Stuttgart, Spain and Italy, and also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.

Of course, the midfielder was involved in Germany's terrible 2018 World Cup campaign, as they were eliminated at the first hurdle for the first time since 1938.

However, he has since reaffirmed his commitment to the national team, maintaining that he will not retire from the cause.

"I continue to believe that the team's sporting success and performance must be above all else," Khedira wrote on social media last month.

"The national team must be formed by the best players in the country and the national coach must have free choice."

He has won 77 caps for the national side and has scored seven goals but was not involved in their recent Nations League draw with France or the 2-1 friendly victory over Peru.

Instead, he will hope to feature against Sassuolo for Juventus on Sunday.
