LACAZETTE DENIES CONSIDERING ARSENAL EXIT

Alexandre Lacazette insists he gave no thought to leaving Arsenal when seeing his future called into question during the summer transfer window.

Having spent just one season at Emirates Stadium, it was suggested that the French striker was prepared to cut short a Premier League adventure.

The 27-year-old had managed 17 goals during his debut campaign, but injury issues, a dip in form and the arrival of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang saw him linked with moves elsewhere.

He eventually saw the deadline pass still on the books in north London and has opened the 2018-19 campaign in impressive style – netting the match-winner against Cardiff in his last outing.

Lacazette claims to be thoroughly enjoying his football and maintains that he always intended to stay put and fight for a regular role under Unai Emery.

He told reporters after starring in south Wales: "I don't know who said this stuff, but I am at one of the best clubs in London and I am happy at Arsenal.

"It's always going to be hard to be in the first XI at a club like this, but I always keep fighting and working.

"I won't play every week just because of one game.

"Every day I have to work and show the coach I work well and I deserve my place."

Lacazette displayed signs of striking up a promising partnership with Aubameyang towards the end of last season and has offered further encouragement alongside the Gabonese frontman this term.

He added on a potentially fruitful working relationship: "It's nice to play together because we compliment each other's strengths.

"He deserved to score [against Cardiff] because he has worked so hard since the start of the season.

"The Chelsea game was hard for him because he missed some chances, but it was nice to play well with him.

"The system was good, we worked on it all week. It was different, but good."
