SANCHEZ RELISHING NEXT SPURS CHALLENGE

Davinson Sanchez believes that he can put his experiences at the World Cup to good use in helping Tottenham challenge for the Premier League title once more this season.

The Colombia international enjoyed an impressive first season with Spurs and followed it up with a strong showing in Russia for his country, featuring in all four of the nation’s games.

And the 22-year-old centre-back, who joined the club from Ajax last August on a six-year contract, is hopeful that he will be able to carry the lessons learned from his performances through into the new campaign.

"Last season was good," Sanchez told Spurs' official website. "I love a big challenge. Teams raise their game against us because we are a team with a lot of quality and we need to be ready."

Addressing what he learned in Russia, he added that a lot of his team’s success came down to backing themselves and that it is something Spurs will look to do this season.

"For me, it was a good World Cup. The most important thing was how we picked up from the first game – a red card, a penalty. It gives us all a lot of belief.

"I want to get better, to do more. It’s the same for the team and that’s about belief. The most important thing is you believe in your quality."

Sanchez is currently part of Tottenham’s squad for the International Champions Cup in the US, featuring from the bench against both Roma and Barcelona, but he insists that the short pre-season turnaround will not affect his fitness.

"I feel good," he added. "I’m here with my team-mates and it's good. The most important thing is to come back feeling good and to be ready for the start of the season. That’s important for us, to come back in good condition. I’m ready."

Tottenham play Milan in their final ICC game at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, before flying back to Europe for a final friendly against Girona.

They then kick-off their new Premier League season away to Newcastle at St James’ Park on August 11.
