MAYWEATHER: I’M HAPPILY RETIRED

Floyd Mayweather Jr. is playing down months of teasing a mega-fight with Conor McGregor as another round of rumours swirl.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Mayweather and McGregor had agreed to "a multimillion dollar deal" to green light the first-of-its-kind event, which would pit the boxing legend against one of mixed martial arts' most accomplished fighters in a cross-combat bout.

However, Mayweather - retired since 2015 with a perfect 49-0 record - responded via Twitter to throw more cold water on renewed hype over the fight.

"There seems to be several rumours floating around media recently," he wrote.

"However, let the record show, there hasn't been any deals made in regards to a fight between myself and any other fighters.

"I am happily retired and enjoying life at this time. If any changes are to come, be sure that I will be the first to let the world to know."

Earlier in the day, ESPN quoted Mayweather saying the fight is "getting very, very close."
